Help

Help! I'm using AIM Triton and when downloading an icon and it says "You have clicked on an AIM hyperlink that your client does not support"

Old versions of AIM Triton do not support buddy icons. Download the Newest AIM Triton beta to install icons from Frank's Icons. Alternatively, you can use AIM 5.9 or Trillian.

  1. To install an icon, sign in to AIM using your screenname. Next, find the icon you want to download and click the download button. Click Yes when AIM asks you if you want to change your personal buddy icon.
  2. That's it! Your icon is installed.

If you still can't get the icon to install, you can download it manually:

  1. Right click on the icon and select Save Picture As... and pick a place on your hard drive that you will be able to find again.
  2. Go to your AIM Triton buddy list and go to the Tools menu, select Settings (F7).
  3. Click on Expressions from the list on the left. Click the Browse button under the buddy icon in the top right corner.
Also, be sure to check the All Buddy Icons option so you can see all your friend's icons.
  4. Navigate to the icon you previously saved to your hard drive, click on the name of the icon, and click Open.
  5. Click Ok on the copyright warning and Save in the preferences window to save your changes.
  6. Done!

I'm an AOL User. I see "The page cannot be displayed" or nothing happens when I download an icon.
You must use AIM 5.9 or AIM Triton to install icons. The chat client bundled with AOL does not support custom buddy icons.

  1. Download AIM from AOL's website. This is a free program created which is compatible with your AOL installation and will not affect your use of AOL.
  2. Sign in using the standalone AIM client using the screen name you wish to use the new buddy icon with.
  3. Go to Frank's Icons and download your chosen buddy icon.
  4. You can now quit AIM and your buddy icon will appear on your AOL screen name.

How do I install a buddy icon using AIM 5.9?

  1. Launch AIM by going to the Start menu then Programs, AOL Instant Messenger, and select AIM. If you cannot find the program, download AIM for free.
  2. Sign in to AOL Instant Messenger using the screen name you want to download an icon for. You cannot install a custom icon using AIM Express.
  3. Find the icon you want to use and click on Download this icon.
  4. Wait up to 30 seconds for AIM to find the icon. Click OK when AIM asks you "Are you sure that you wish to change your personal Buddy Icon for YOUR SCREENNAME".
  5. You're done! You should now be able to use your new icon. Allow 15 minutes for all your buddies to see your new icon.
  6. If the automatic installation of the icon did not work, please double check that AIM is running. Download AIM for reinstall it if you're still having problems. Also, if you're using AIM Triton, buddy icons are not supported..

If you still can't get the icon to install, you can download it manually:
